Our History
Dan began his passion for construction and concrete work at a very young age in St. Cloud, MN. While growing up his parents built their own custom home which gave him the opportunity to be around the construction process from the ground up. He jumped right in alongside the guys who poured the concrete for their home and would build concrete roads in the back yard to run his dump trucks on using sakrete.
At 12 years old, Dan and his mom started a lawn care and snow removal company where they would work until dark instilling a strong work ethic in him at a young age. After graduating high school Dan and a friend formed D & B Lawn Care & Snow Removal in 2002. Dan took control over the business in 2003. At this time, he was also working for a concrete company as a finisher (working 90+ hours a week between both jobs) and knew that he would eventually transform the Lawn Care & Landscaping business into a full-service concrete company.
In 2005 D & B Concrete was formed and transitioned into providing concrete services only, specifically decorative concrete. In 2009, the financial crisis had devastating impacts on the local economy but being stubborn and not willing to give up, Dan moved his business to Alaska and began to pursue work in the commercial sector. There was always a strong desire in him to be a part of large-scale concrete projects and large flatwork pours. Pushing the limit further every year. "I remember when I started my concrete business, I would feel sick to my stomach knowing that I had to pour 5 or 10 yards that day, next thing | know we are doing 500+ yard pours in a single day. We went from 800 square foot pours to 24,000."
D & B Concrete was ran from home with paperwork and plans scattered throughout and a garage full of concrete finishing equipment for years. This could only last so long, in 2021 work began on a laydown yard and a full shop with office space. At this same time Dan married his amazing wife Heid and she took over all office operations. Heidi has extensive experience in customer service making her a great fit to run the office side of the business. Heidi's experience includes 7 years as a manager at Body Renew, working as a carpenter on the North Slope Oil Fields, and working as a lead sewer for ASRC Construction fabricating insulated blankets for oil rigs and pipelines. She has visions for building D & B Concrete into a generational business and has recently taken over 51% ownership of D & B. On top of being ambitious in her vision for D & B Concrete, she is raising children, always baking something at home, and actively involved in a mom's church group. With her vision and Dan's hard work ethic the two want to continue to build a company based on quality concrete construction, integrity, and a place where employees are proud to work at.
